Blow mold for birds

The blow moulding machine is used to manufacture hollow bodies like bottles or other containers made out of plastic. The drink industry mainly uses PET bottles. Coupled with a blow moulding machine, these are manufactured using a bottling line. Three different processes are necessary for the industry: injection blow moulding; extrusion blow moulding; and stretch blow moulding. Using these processes, a variety of plastic hollow bodies with thermoplastic properties can be produced.

  • Manufacturing of hollow bodies
  • Injection blow moulding, extrusion blow moulding and stretch blow moulding are common processes
  • Most common use is for the packaging industry for liquids

A pre-formed mould is used to blow the workpiece into a specific form. Through the cooling of the plastic, the workpiece maintains its form. The blow moulding machine is made out of a frame and a corresponding mechanism used to transport the moulds. The finished bottles or thermoplastic containers are led out of the machine via conveyors. The bottling line is then used to fill up and label the finished bottles. Modern machines have an automatic steering system used for all the steps of the process, and the corresponding sensors are used to control the process. Bottles are normally produced using injection blow moulding. Extrusion blow moulding is used for the manufacturing of canisters, casks, oil tanks or similar parts. This process uses a tubular pre-formed mould that is used during the extrusion. The workpiece gains the shape of the pre-formed mould through the blow moulding process.

The technical mechanisms needed to produce hollow bodied workpieces using the blowing technique were established very early on. Because glass is very breakable, after the introduction of plastic, plastic was being used to replace glass in some cases. The first mass production of plastic bottles was done in America in 1939. Germany started using this technology a little bit later, but is currently one of the leading manufacturers of blow moulding machines.

Blow moulding machines are mainly used for the packaging industry for liquid foodstuffs and drinks. Along with the bottling plants, this machine enables an affordable alternative for the packaging of finished products. The extrusion blow moulding process is used for the manufacturing of technical components. Petrol or oil tanks made out of plastic (even very large ones) can be produced using this process. Further applications for blow moulding includes small boots and children?s toys made out of thermoplastic material.

Several companies have specialised in the manufacturing of blow moulding machines. Some of the most recommended suppliers include KHS, KRONES, KOSME, SIDEL, ROMI, BEKUM, JOMAR, HESTA, KAUTEX, BBM, WINDSOR and MAUSER.
